Wake Up With Jameson Taillon Taking A No-Hitter Into The 7th
Pittsburgh Pirates fans are excited about rookie right-hander Jameson Taillon, and they should be. The 24-year-old was the number two overall pick in the 2010 MLB Draft, and he made his major league debut a week ago today. In his second major league start against Jacob deGrom and the Mets, Taillon took a no-hitter into the seventh inning before allowing a base hit to Curtis Granderson. Taillon kept the shutout intact, throwing 8 innings of two-hit ball, while striking out five in Pittsburgh’s 4-0 victory.
Now, if you’re not familiar with the Pirates’ farm system, which I’d imagine most baseball fans outside of Pittsburgh are not, then you’d probably assume that Taillon is the Pirates’ top pitching prospect. He’s not. That distinction belongs to 22-year-old Tyler Glasnow, who has a 1.90 ERA with 86 strikeouts in 71 innings for Pittsburgh’s Triple-A affiliate right now. Keith Law actually ranked him as the No. 6 prospect in baseball before the 2016 season started. The Pirates would like to see Glasnow work on his control issues (36 walks in 13 starts) before he follows in Taillon’s footsteps to The Show, but he’s not far off.
