I Agree, There Is No Such Thing As "Too Soon" When Making Jokes About Dead People
My former boss/current co-worker wrote a blog about how he made a Kimbo Slice joke last night 2.3 seconds after he died and people on Twitter called him an asshole. He was all on Twitter last night like “hey fuck you if you think it’s too soon to make dead people jokes!”. Which I agree with. Absolutely nothing wrong with making jokes about Kimbo Slice. But you can’t have it both ways. You can’t come down hard on me for making a joke after some old guy kicked the bucket telling me “I should wait til the body isn’t still warm” to make jokes, and then turn around and do it the next time someone dies. We all know that no matter who it is, people are going to be pissed because the person had just died. The hypocrisy is through the roof and into the next galaxy. I told Dave this on the phone, I don’t think there is such thing as “too soon”. Everyone is fair game when they die. There’s no such thing as too soon. You can’t pick and choose who gets “thoughts and prayers” and who gets jokes so you can gather up precious RTs on Twitter. A joke is a joke is a joke no matter if the person has been dead for a minute, a week, or 10 years. Just because a guy meant nothing to you doesn’t mean he didn’t mean a lot to someone, somewhere, which is basically the definition of “offensive” to begin with. Someone somewhere is going to be offended by anything, so just make the fucking joke and don’t worry about sensitive Sallies getting their panties in a bunch. Either every dead person joke is ok, or no dead person joke is ok. So I’d like to double and triple down on my previous one.
