Hopefully Giancarlo Stanton Is Starting To Come Out Of His Funk With This Line Drive Home Run Today
Giancarlo Stanton is on pace to have the worst season of his career by a pretty sizable margin. Coming into play on Tuesday, Stanton’s OPS this year (.794) was 108 points fewer than his career average. Prior to today’s game, Stanton’s last home run came on May 15. Since that date, coming into today, Stanton was 2-for-24 with 17 strikeouts. That means that he struck out in 71% of his at-bats over a seven-game span. Despite the absolute cock rocket of a home run he hit against the Rays in Miami’s 4-3 loss, Stanton’s still far from out of the woods. The homer was the only hit on the day for the 26-year-old, and he did strike out once. He’s on pace to strike out 220 times in 2016, which would be 50 more strikeouts than his career high of 170 in 2014. In addition to that, he’s only hitting .214 this year, which is 53 points lower than his career average, and he’s only slugging .481, when his career average is .543. Hopefully this is the beginning of the turning point for Stanton.
