Softball Team Loses Championship After Celebrating Early And Letting 3 Runs Score

ESPN WBases loaded, two outs, winning run on first base in the championship softball game. This isn’t a walk-off from Hollywood.  McKinney North High School scored three runs while its opponent, Wylie High School, thought it had won and began celebrating, and ended up winning in the most unusual walk-off possible. Here’s how it all went down: McKinney North trailed Wylie 6-2 entering the bottom of the seventh inning of a Texas high school district championship game. McKinney cut the lead to 6-4 and loaded the bases with two outs. McKinney grounded into a fielder’s choice to short. Wylie’s shortstop tossed the ball to second base for the force out and promptly began celebrating. … Only she didn’t record the force out. The runner at second base was ruled safe. As Wylie began celebrating and jumping around on the infield, McKinney’s baserunners kept circling the bases. By the time Wylie realized it hadn’t won, it was too late.  It technically goes down in the scoring book as a walk-off three-run fielder’s choice, which may be the first three-run anything for a ball that didn’t leave the infield. Always make sure that final out is recorded.

Obviously we can’t see from this angle what went down at 2nd base. I guess maybe she wasnt actually on the bag? But from this angle that girl look out as FUCK. So this headline really should read “Umpire loses softball team the championship with absolutely terrible call.” Of course you should never start celebrating until you know the game is over but that was some Alejandro Gallaraga/Jim Joyce shit. And that was about as slow and lazy of a safe call as you can give on the final out of a championship game. That ump was acting like it was a beer league game. Either that or he had a boatload of money on the home team and needed to keep that inning going as quietly and discreetly as possible.

At any right, despite this seeming like a huge screwjob, this is just chicks all around. Always letting their emotions get the best of them. The team celebrating too early, the other chick crying at second base while her team screams at her to run. Even the winning team crying on the field as they celebrate their championship. Yea, I know you just won but I mean have some self awareness. I think I’d embarrassed to celebrate a 3 run walk off fielder’s choice that passionately.  (Just kidding probably not but goddam thats a tough look)

PS – I wonder what goes through the mind of some chick over at ESPN W when they gotta post this stuff. Probably the only time they get traffic is embarrassing highlights like this. Sets the whole movement back like 50 years but you get those pageviews. Quite the predicament.
