The Sands Casino Group Want To Build a 1 Billion Dollar Stadium In Vegas For The Raiders

Fox 5 Vegas - Word emerged Thursday that the University of Nevada, Las Vegas may team up with casino owner Sheldon Adelson to try to bring the NFL to Las Vegas. On Thursday, UNLV provided to FOX5 an email from president Len Jessup that states he has been made aware that the Adelson-owned Las Vegas Sands plans to announce its support for a new special events stadium to be located on the 42 acres of land, which is situated near Tropicana Avenue and Koval Lane. In addition, the email states that officials with the Oakland Raiders are scheduled to tour Las Vegas as part of a search for a new home. UNLV was asked to meet with Raiders officials at the 42-acre site. A Sands spokesperson confirmed to FOX5 that plans for a $1 billion domed stadium are moving forward, with or without a team. The stadium would contain at least 60,000 seats.

First things first- fuck Sheldon Adelson. He’s pretty much the primary reason we don’t have legalized online poker across all 50 states. So fuck that guy in his old stupid crusty ass. Guess what Sheldon- if you let me play online I would have more money to come spend in Vegas at your stupid casinos. More people would be interested in coming to Vegas because of the fun they have playing on their computers. It’s not hard to figure out.

But anyway, back to the story at hand. Uncle Sheldon wants to build a 1 billion dollar domed football stadium in Vegas, possibly for the Raiders. Now, when word came out there was going to be an arena built in Vegas potentially for an NHL team, I said I dig the idea. Between tourists and locals I think they can get around 15,000 people, 41 nights a year to watch NHL hockey in Vegas. They just have to promote it as a madhouse, the best hockey watching environment, slots at your seats, cheap drinks, absolute party while the game is going.

I think it will be a lot harder to do the same for football. The last thing I want to do on a Sunday in Vegas is leave bed, nevermind go to a loud as fuck football game. Hockey works because it’s at night, the perfect pregame. Sunday afternoon games in the desert sound terrible. You can go to the sportsbook and watch every game at once on massive TVs, why would you want to go to the stadium hungover as all hell? If LA can’t support a football team, why would Vegas be able to? It’d be a cool destination spot for opposing teams’ fans, that’s for sure. I could see the majority of fans in the stadium rooting for whoever is playing the Vegas Raiders, just making a weekend out of it. But let’s just do the right thing and keep the Raiders in Oakland where they belong. Never have a city an a team needed each other more.
