Kmarko's DraftKings Picks - January 28
Welcome back to the daily DraftKings picks where we try to get super rich playing daily fantasy basketball. As usual I’ll do a brief recap of my lineups from the week before then throw out some picks that I’m brainstorming for this weekend, and hopefully get some good feedback/tips/picks from you guys either in the comment section or on Twitter @kmarkobarstool.
What an awful night.
228 top score ain’t gonna get it done. The dud from Steph certainly didn’t help – got 107 points from the blog picks (Steph, Booker and Millsap), but that’s not good enough. I went off the board a little bit and hit with LaVine, but that was immediately cancelled out by total bombs from Tristan and Len.
Following up a 330 point night with a 228 is a bummer but whatever, got to just jump right back on the horse.
Three picks from the three price tiers, leggo.
PF Boogie Cousins $11.2K
I took a deep breath, laid off him last game, and was handsomely rewarded as he threw up a 28 point dud. For 11K, that absolutely dooms your tournament lineup, and it’s the risk you run when you pay up for these guys: every now and then they’re not going to score 80 points. But it’s a new night and a new matchup and I’m going right back to the Boogie well. His price actually went up after that dud, which I kind of like…11.2K and recency bias will (hopefully) keep some people off him, as everyone flocks for the chalk play of Ryan Anderson. Anderson is definitely a strong play for pretty cheap, but Cousins is a game changer.
PG Jrue Holiday 6.7K
This one is tough. Which Jrue do we get…the one that put up 58 points last game? Or the one that put up 16 in 22 minutes a couple games before that? Luckily with the price sitting at a nice and cheap 6.7K it’s not too much of a risk to take a chance on the former. The matchup is good, Tyreke is banged up, Brow is gonna be out…somebody needs to run that offense. Norris Cole is cheaper, but Jrue is more talented, so I’ll put my faith in him for the night.
VALUE PLAY SF Derrick Williams $5.5K
His price has come up – back to back 40+ point games will do that to you. But 5.5K is still super cheap for D-Will with Melo out again. Lance Thomas gets the start, but Williams is getting 35 minutes per off the bench, and has smashed value for the past week. As someone who has watched plenty of Knicks games this season, believe me when I tell you, it’s not like the stats are going to be coming from many other places.
Other guys to consider…
John Wall has been slumping lately, but a nice matchup with Denver could get him going again, especially for only 9.1K…If Kyle Lowry sits out, Cory Joseph instantly becomes a top value play…At SG I’m probably leaning Will Barton if I don’t pay up for DeRozan…Afflalo should also get some more looks with Melo out…If Derrick Williams is my #1 SF pick, Gallo is my 1A, should be in a great spot. Like I said, Ryan Anderson will be overowned, but is a strong play with Ant out…At center I would roll Pau, or if you’re scared off by the blowout potential, Marc Gasol is a good pivot – Willie Cauley Stein is a solid value play as well.
…
That’s it for me, good luck tonight. Tweet me @kmarkobarstool with your picks or to talk shit, whatever. Also if you’re depositing to play make sure to use my referral and we’ll both get hooked up with some stuff.
