The Cardinals Are Installing A Video Board This Off Season Partially Because They're Intimidated By The Big One At Wrigley

(CBS) The Cubs-Cardinals rivalry has been reinvigorated after a playoffclash last season and Chicago’s offseason signing of a pair of former key St. Louis players in Jason Heyward and John Lackey. Now, we find out the gamesmanship doesn’t just have to do with the players, games and fans. It also extends to the stadium experience.

The Cardinals are installing a pair of new videoboards at Busch Stadium this offseason, and a team executive readily admitted it was a project that gained momentum after seeing the Cubs add a pair of state-of-the-art videoboards at Wrigley Field prior to the 2015 season. The Cardinals’ new HDLED main videoboard will be nearly three times bigger than their old one, according to MLB.com, with twice the resolution and brightness. “We’ll be right up there with the best of them now,” vice president of stadium operations Joe Abernathy told MLB.com. “It’s amazing how technologyhas evolved in 10 short years. Technology has progressed considerably since we put this in back in April 2006.

“But we did get upset actually when the Cubs had a better videoboard than us. Especially with how it ended (in the NLDS) and all they’re doing now, we don’t want to be sitting behind the Cubs in anything.” The Cubs defeated the Cardinals in four games in the NLDS after St. Louis wonthe division. After their big offseason, the Cubs are regarded as a World Series favorite.

Listen, no one will deny the Cardinals have owned the Cubs throughout history but as my friend Mike (Ditka) once said, those who live in the past are cowards and losers, and what the Cubs are doing to the Cardinals right now is absolutely remarkable. The tides have completely turned. It’s actually kind of pathetic at this point. I figured it would eventually happen I just never thought it would happen virtually over night. The Cubs beat the Cardinals in the playoffs, have a far better team going forward, stole the Cardinals two best players from 2015 (for less money),  watched as Waino cried to the media, and now have videoboards being installed that I know the Cardinals can’t afford just to keep up with the big bad Cubs. And no I’m not spinning this. Look at this quote.

“But we did get upset actually when the Cubs had a better videoboard than us. Especially with how it ended (in the NLDS) and all they’re doing now, we don’t want to be sitting behind the Cubs in anything.”

They’re getting mad about Videoboards! VIDEOBOARDS! That’s when you know you own someone, when they can’t even let you put a new TV in your house without it bothering them. The Cardinals are up at night losing sleep about the Cubs. They are obsessed with our every move. I love all of it. Can’t wait for opening day.
