Justin Thomas Says He'd Rather Win A Ryder Cup Than A Major So We All Love Justin Thomas Now

Golf Channel- As players embark on a new year, there is no shortage of goals to be set: performance metrics, world ranking cutoffs, trophy hauls. For Justin Thomas, the goal is clear – and it might not be the one you would expect from a 22-year-old Tour sophomore. More than titles, Thomas wants a spot on the Ryder Cup team at Hazeltine National this fall. “I think that’s No. 1, for sure,” Thomas said on “Morning Drive” Tuesday. “No disrespect to the Olympics at all. In any form, if you get to represent your country it doesn’t matter what it is. I want to be doing that.” Thomas is in the field this week at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions thanks to his win at the CIMB Classic in November. That victory, along with a T-3 finish at the season-opening Frys.com Open, have him starting the year at No. 3 in the FedEx Cup standings, but Thomas didn’t receive any Ryder Cup points for his result in either fall event. While he currently sits in 33rd place on the U.S. points list, Thomas remains eager to make the team after joining his father as a fan at three editions of the biennial event as a kid. “It’s just unbelievable. I got chills as a spectator, and talking to guys that have played in it, they said it’s the coolest thing they’ve ever done,” he said. “It’s something I’m definitely shooting for, but I can’t get ahead of myself. I’ve got a lot of things I need to take care of first.” A spot at Hazeltine would likely correlate to on-course success, but Thomas is clearly prioritizing a Ryder Cup berth. He even went as far as to say that, given the choice, he would rather have a spot on a winning American squad this fall than win a major this year. “Winning Ryder Cup team, hands down,” he said.

What’s that?  You don’t know who Justin Thomas is?  Maybe you know him better as Jordan Spieth’s Good Buddy but he just rocketed himself up my Favorite American Golfer Rankings with this.  The 22-year-old young gun from Louisville, Kentucky just threw down the gauntlet.  I couldn’t love an American golfer saying they’d rather be on a winning Ryder Cup team than WIN a major.  That’s exactly what the American side needs.  No more of these stupid fucking committees to pick a captain*. No more focus groups on how to make America successful in the Ryder Cup. Nope and nope.  We need guys like Justin Thomas.  Guys who bleed red, white and blue.  Guys who want Ryder Cup titles more than majors. How many more times are we gonna watch that Euro trash bag Ian Poulter and his pals spray champagne all over each other before we’re fed up? They’ve won the last two and seven of the last ten.  Well Justin Thomas is fed up. He’s willing to lay it all out there.  JT is exactly the type of player I want storming the gates of Hazeltine in late September. No, he doesn’t even have a RC roster spot but we need him on the team. We need as many guys like Justin Thomas as we can get. U-S-A! U-S-A! U-S-A!

*I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: John Daly needs to be the captain of the USA Ryder Cup team.  Nothing has ever made more sense that isn’t happening.  All due respect to Davis Love III but I’ve never seen him have one of his lungS collapse and then be playing golf again less than 24 hours later. I’ve never seen Davis Love III tee up a golf ball on a Budweiser tall boy. I’ve sure as shit never seen Davis Love III wear something like this
