Maryland Hoops Is Now Ranked 2nd In The Nation, The First Time They've Been 2nd Since 2002

Maryland 24/7 - It took a bit of charity from some old rivals, but Maryland basketball is now one spot away from its first No. 1 ranking ever. The Terps are ranked No. 2 in this week’s Associated Press Poll, moving up one spot thanks to formerly top-ranked North Carolina’s loss to Northern Iowa — an upset that ended any hopes of the Dec. 1 Maryland-UNC game unfolding as a showdown between No. 1 and No. 2; the Tar Heels fell to No. 8 after their loss. It’s the highest ranking since March 5, 2002 — the end of the regular season before the Terps began their NCAA championship run — for Maryland, which received six first-place votes. Top-ranked Kentucky got the other 49 votes for the No. 1 spot.

Movin on uppppp, movin on up. To that number 2 spot. Kinda sucks though. I wanted to beat North Carolina in Chapel Hill next Tuesday and earn the number 1 spot. But little did I know UNC wouldn’t even allow us the chance by falling to Northern Iowa and getting bounced all the way down to number 9. It’s kind of a cool feeling still though, being the number 2 team in all the country, behind only Kentucky, for the first time since the National Championship season. And the close game vs Georgetown was validate when they took Duke down to the wire. Obviously Gtown isn’t as bad as the team that lost to RADFORD. This is going to be a roller coaster of a season.
