When You Want To Get Away From The Cops So Badly That You Just Jump Off a Bridge
When another law enforcement agency pursued a vehicle into our city on Oct. 7, 2015, our officers assisted by using stop sticks and staying behind the the fleeing car. Then, the man stopped in the middle of the Broadway Bridge over the Missouri River and jumped off the bridge. Look toward the middle of the bridge at 0:24 (about 10:25:23 on the time stamp) and you’ll see him run out of his car and jump from the left side of the bridge. He survived the fall and made it to shore, where our officers worked with Kansas City Fire Department members to rescue him and get him to the hospital. He complained of overall soreness.
Have to admire the character of this guy. No quit in him whatsoever. When the going gets tough, the tough jump off a bridge. You avoid the police by any means necessary. You have to respect that type of hustle, no matter who you are or what he did. Commendable effort. He weighed his options and thought to himself his chances are better flying off the side of a bridge and tackling the future from there then going nicely into a cop car. Not really terrible thinking at all- when you surrender, you know 100% you’re going to jail. When you jump off a bridge, there is that chance you get away clean, join a colony of dolphins, or land on a yacht and sail to the southern Mediterranean. So note to future felons: always jump off the bridge.
