Sasha Banks Making a Little Girl Cry Last Night At The NXT PPV Was The Best Heel Work In a Long, Long Time, Proving Once Again NXT Is Far Supperior To The Main Roster
Quick background for those unfamiliar – NXT is the developmental brand for WWE. It’s the minor leagues where they learn the craft before going to the main roster, which are the people you see on Raw and Wrestlemania and the like. However, NXT is much better than Raw. And last night proved it once again, as the main event of their PPV was a 30 minute Iron Man Match between big time heel Sasha Banks, and huge face Bayley. Yes, a women’s match main evented, and yes, it was the best match of the night and it wasn’t even close. It’s remarkable what the women in NXT are capable of doing, and how much more they are allowed to do than the “Divas” on Raw.
But back to the point, if you have the Network, you have to watch last night’s main event. It was a continuation of the Sasha/Bayley match from the previous NXT Takeover in Brooklyn which was a 5 star match itself. The story-telling, the in ring psychology, and the best part- Sasha making Bayley’s biggest fan cry. Stealing her bow and taunting her right in her face. The clip above doesn’t do it full justice- when I watched last night I had to pause it for a second because I was stunned. And it wasn’t fake or staged, it was just Sasha taking her character to the next level. The little girl, Izzy, is known as Bayley’s biggest fan, and doesn’t totally get what’s happening. Her dad, by the way, did a great job understanding what was happening, and the fact his daughter sobbing, bawling her eyes out crying became a huge part of the match is pretty crazy.
I feel like something like that would never happen on Raw. For starters, nobody on Raw really has a story line anymore. Sasha and Bayley have grown a 2 year story line together. There’s nothing like that on Raw. The NXT writing is so much better, the characters are so much better developed, and the creativity within the matches makes them so much more fun to watch. It’s good wrestling. It’s almost amazing NXT and Raw are run by the same company. The only difference is Vince has the final say on the main roster, and HHH is doing god’s work down in NXT. One day Vince will hand the company off to HHH and we’ll see a resurgence. I’ll keep writing that until the day comes, which can’t come soon enough.
PS: Here’s the video package before their match in July. Tells their whole 2 year story. Then find somewhere and watch the match. NXT isn’t just good wrestling, it’s good television. It’s what wrestling should be, a well written script with performances by great athletes which further the story lines.
