Miss Italy Catching Heat For Answering "1942, So I Could Expierence World War 2" When Asked What Year She Would Most Want To Live In UPDATE: She Also Said Michael Jordan Was Her Favorite Historical Italian Figure Too
The Independent – The winner of the Miss Italy contest has been ridiculed after claiming 1942 was the year she would have most liked to have lived in, despite Europe being at the height of the Second World War. When Alice Sabatini was asked by judges which historical period she would most like to live in during the final stage of the contest on Monday, she replied: “[19]42″. According to a translation obtained by The Independent, the 18-year-old reasoned that as a woman during this period, she would not have escaped conscription and the battlefield. “You know we always read pages and pages on the WWII and I would like to experience it, though obviously being a woman I would have just stayed home and wouldn’t have to be a soldier.” The dictator Mussolini’s fascist party was still ruling Italy in 1942, a year during which the mass murder of Jews in the Auschwitz concentration camp began and almost 21,000 Italians were killed in the Battle of Stalingrad. Thousands of Jews also left Italy and emigrated to America after anti-Semitic legislation was introduced in 1938 and upheld until 1942. Her answer was widely mocked on social media, with a number of people doctoring pictures from battlefields by inserting her into them. However, her answer failed to deter judges and she was crowned the winner of the annual beauty pageant on Monday. Ms Sabatani reportedly clarified her comments on Tuesday, telling the Urban Post her great-grandmother had lived through the war and often recounted stories from that that period. “I would have liked to live through what she had gone through in those years,” she said. “For better and for worse.”
I talked about Miss Italy on today’s Daily Mail. This answer will no doubt go down in the Pantheon of Bad Beauty Pageant Answers. Short of Miss Japan saying she wishes she could experience Hiroshima or Miss Israel wishing she could go through the Holocaust, Miss Italy wanting to live under Mussolini’s Fascist regime is probably the worst answer possible for a beauty queen. Especially being like “Well I’m a chick so I wouldnt have to fight so I’d just be at home hanging out.” If this was like an American being like I wish I was there to fight for my country, sure. Thats admirable. But an Italian chick being like “Italy circa 1942 seems like fun!” just sounds like an asshole.
But. BUT. I uncovered a HUGE piece of evidence that kind of exonerates Miss Italy from this godawful World War 2 answer. As I was searching the internet for all the WW2 memes, I stumbled across her tattoo:
All the sudden, just like that, I’m down with this ditzy broad. Anybody who has the Jumpman tatt’d on her hip like that is A-OK in my book. Short of walking out on stage wearing a pair of Cement 3’s this is as good as it gets. She should have just answered “I wish I lived in Chicago, Illinois from 1984 to 1998 to witness the greatest athlete of any generation. The 95-96 72-10 Bulls were an inspiration to us all, and when they went back to back in 96-97 like they were on the cover of Lethal Weapon, we realized anything can be accomplished!”
Bottom line is this chick doesnt know shit about World War 2 but she does know about Michael Jeffrey Jordan and thats enough for me. Nobody else in Italy knows about His Airness. Who cares about Mussolini and shit. MJ is the only leader that matters.
UPDATE:
The Telegraph – The new Miss Italia is being ridiculed for the second time in a week after she said her favourite historical Italian figure is American basketball legend Michael Jordan. Alice Sabatini, crowned Miss Italia on Sunday, paid dearly on social media after she was asked what historical period she would like to live in and answered: “1942”- one of the darkest years of the Second World War and the Mussolini dictatorship. The gaffe won her a “Tapiro d’Oro” (Golden Tapir), a mock prize given out by Italian satirical news program Striscia la Notizia to celebrities who have been humiliated or defeated. When Miss Sabatini was handed the mock prize by Valerio Staffelli, Striscia’s special correspondent, she was asked which Italian historical figure she most admired. After a long pause the beauty queen replied: “Michael Jordan, the greatest player in basketball history”.
Who’s the best Italian ever? I cant even name any Italians. Probably some soccer player or like a Formula 1 racer. Italians suck. So fuck your question and its stupid parameters. My favorite Italian? Michael Jordan. My favorite Indian? Michael Jordan. My favorite Asian? Michael Jordan. Miss Italy just breaking down all sorts of international barriers and biases with that answer.
