Justin Bieber Drops The Single Greatest Quote You Will Ever Read
Rolling Stone – The 21-year-old pop superstar – whose new, Kanye West-assisted LP is out November 13th – has shared the source of his redemption: Christianity. “I just wanna honestly live like Jesus,” Bieber told Complex in a lengthy cover story. “Not be Jesus – I could never – I don’t want that to come across weird. He created a pretty awesome template of how to love people and how to be gracious and kind. If you believe it, he died for our sins.”The singer clarified that he’s “not religious,” as he’s bothered by the “really weird stuff going on at churches” and the holier-than-thou attitude of certain Christians. But he emphasized that his life has been transformed by faith. “We have the greatest healer of all, and his name is Jesus Christ,” he said. “And he really heals. This is it. It’s time that we all share our voice. Whatever you believe. Share it. I’m at a point where I’m not going to hold this in.” The key to being Christian, Bieber said is having “this connection that you feel there’s no insecurities” – not simply enjoying fellowship at church. He also used an unorthodox analogy to drive home his point: “You don’t need to go to church to be a Christian. If you go to Taco Bell, that doesn’t make you a taco.”
Up until this moment, my favorite quote in the history of humanity was when Whitney Houston was accused of buying crack/cocaine and her defense was “Show me the receipts.” But Justin Bieber may have just topped that with this Taco/Christianity analogy.
And you know why its the best quote you’ll ever read? Because its an ironclad argument. If you go to Taco Bell, you do not become a taco. You are still a human being. Well if you go to church, you dont BECOME Jesus. You dont transform into a CHURCH. You’re still just a regular human, living your life as best you can. And thats what Christianity is all about. Its not about turning into Jesus or turning into tacos. Its about loving one another. And loving Taco Bell. And you dont need to go to church to love people or love Taco Bell. You just need to live like Jesus and order Cheesy Gordita Crunches. Did the Biebs just become Christianity’s latest and greatest savior? New Age religion inspired by just connection. And tacos. Bieber the Second Coming.
No doubt this was inspired by Pope Francis.
PS – This actually sounds like an argument I’d use when I was a kid to try to get out of church. “Its not like I’m going to turn into Jesus mom. I didnt turn into a Big Mac after going to McDonald’s last night. So why do I have to go to church?”
