Christopher Nolan's New Movie Is An Adaptation Of The Greatest Epic In Human History
This is fantastic news. I feel like I was just bitching on LCB about how they just don't make grand-scale epics like they used to. I'm a sucker for the 'Troy', 'Kingdom of Heaven' and 'Gladiators' of the world and, going back. they used to pump these out like crazy in the 60s. What made those ones even cooler were that instead of waves of computer generated soldiers, they would just hire out like 1,000 extras at a time (probably paying them fuck all but damn does it look better when it's real).
The Odyssey takes place right after the events of 'Troy' and follows Odysseus's insane journey home to Ithaca while his wife fights off the vulture suitors that want to marry her under the assumption that Odysseus is KIA. It's an awesome story and there have been a few adaptations over the years but I will tell you right now that NOTHING will come close to what Nolan is about to pump out.
I mention this with basically every Nolan blog but man Im I just impressed by how much of a unicorn he is. Nobody in the business is able to make money while getting near unanimous praise from both critics and audience members alike quite like he does. This will be a very different sort of movie that, by his filmography's measure, is outside of his comfort zone and I can't wait to see what he's got.
ICYMI, this movie already has an insane cast. The names include Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson and Charlize Theron. HUGE!
