Meaningless Bowl Season is Off to a Hot Start, UNLV Executed The Perfect Chest Pass Fake Punt

In case you haven't realized, bowl season has already begun. Kinda feels like it snuck up on us this year. College football media is been primarily focused on the transfer portal. Seems like roughly every single player in the FBS is actively looking for a new school to play for. Hopefully one that will make them rich beyond their wildest dreams. Or at least give them a chance to play meaningful football. Or play any football at all.

But meaningless bowl season is off to a flying start. There's never a better time to dial up all the backyard bullshit trick plays you'd been saving all season for when you needed it most, but never quite got around to using. I guess UNLV had that one saved for the playoffs. Honestly my first reaction to that UNLV trick punt, before I even appreciated how delightful of a fake punt it was, was how the hell does Cal not see that coming? A preposterous special teams defense to dial up for a midfield punt in the Art of Sport LA Bowl. In that situation, a fake punt is almost more likely than not. Bringing the house and leaving the entire middle of the field wide open was quite the decision.

And earlier tonight we had James Madison take home The Madoff Trophy for the Boca Raton Wet the Beak Ponzi scheme Awareness Bowl presented by Pardon My Take presented by Barstool Sports.

A game complete with James Madison player #99 tackling opponents and firing multiple entire quivers of arrows at the Western Kentucky Hilltopper's offense.

Aside from tonight's games, last night's Scooter's Coffee Frisco Bowl was everything a Frisco Bowl should be. A high scoring game between Memphis & West Virginia. West Virginia trials all game, only to make a furious comeback in the end. West Virginia had one final drive to take the lead. And in true Frisco Bowl fashion, the game ends on a Memphis interception where he runs it back to midfield and gets the ball stripped from behind and Memphis recovers but the fumble is overturned because the ball carrier slid like a quarterback meaning he gave himself up before the ball was actually stripped.

Fantastic start to bowl season. The greatest time of year where the worst, but at the same time the best football is played of the entire season. We're just getting started. More to come.
