No Surprises: Travis Hunter Takes Home the Heisman After a Historic Season
After a two-way season unlike anything we've seen in college football this century, Travis Hunter became Colorado's second Heisman Trophy winner on Saturday night, joining Rashaan Salaam.
If you would have told me coming into this season that Ashton Jeanty would rush for 2,497 yards and 29 touchdowns en route to a College Football Playoff bye for Boise State, I would have said there was nothing any other player could do to usurp his Heisman. Alas, Hunter did it.
Hunter was one of the best receivers in the country as a hobby in addition to being a lockdown corner good enough to be the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft on defense alone. I still think Jeanty had a great case and would not begrudge anyone who voted for him, but Hunter had an unbelievable season and even with Jeanty's numbers, nobody can really have a gripe with Hunter winning the Heisman.
It sure seems like Hunter's decision to commit to Deion Sanders when Coach Prime was still at Jackson State has paid off. He's a Heisman Trophy winner with a season we may never see duplicated, has developed into the best defensive back in America and will be a top pick in the NFL in short order.
Hunter was one of the most electrifying players in college football in decades and will now have his legacy cemented forever.
