Dangles Are Out. Pulling Up And Unloading Piss-Missile Clap Bombs On The Breakaway Is So In

The NHL is filled right now with an overabundance of young, phenom talent. The skill level in the league is off the charts. Every night there's another guy in the league pulling off something that would be considered completely unfathomable just 20-30 years ago. They go out and make the best goalies in the world look absolutely ridiculous on a nightly basis with some of the moves they're able to execute. They're like a bunch of little wizards out there dunking on goalies.

This new era of the NHL is fun. It's exciting. But it could also be deemed as "Instagram Hockey".

There's a reason why classics exist. There is a reason why people are always going to want to eat a perfectly cooked medium-rare ribeye. There is a reason why people are always going to want to drive around in a Mercedes-Benz 300SL. Because as much as times change and things are perceived as being "better", we are always going to yearn for the greatness of the past. Greatness that can withstand the test of time. And that greatness, my friends, is the Breakaway Clap Bomb.

Dear god it's beautiful. It's simple. It's powerful. Yet there's also an elegance and beauty to its power. No little forehand-backhand toe drag flip over the goalie's shoulder. Just a dude flying down the ice fueled by piss and vinegar, and unloading a rocket to the back of the net. That's the type of goal right there scored by a man's man. The type of goal that plays to our basic, natural instincts as human beings. It makes the little caveman portion of our brain jump up and down with joy. Which is the exact type of goal you could expect a guy like Scott Laughton to deliver.

It hasn't been the most productive season for Scott Laughton so far. He's played great in his role with the Flyers throughout the season, but the goals have been hard to come by for him. Just 3 on the year heading into last night. But this breakaway clap bomb in the 2nd period made it 1-0 Flyers. Then 90 seconds into the 3rd period, Scott Laughton scored a shorthanded goal to make it 2-0 Flyers. Then later in the night, Scott Laughton scored again to make it 3-1 Flyers. And then finally, Scott Laughton delivered the final dagger to make it 4-1 Flyers.

4 goals for the Flyers last night. All 4 of them scored by Scott Laughton. The man went into last night's game with 3 goals on the year and he ended up leaving with 7. He keeps that pace up and Ovi better watch his ass. It'll be Scott Laughton to break Wayne's record first.

God this locker room rules. Tight group.

P.S. -- Speaking of a silly amount of young skill in the league right now, it's only a matter of time before Michkov finally tucks one of these. This is as close as he's gotten so far.

I'm not going to tell Mich(igan)kov how to do his thing out there. But what I will say is that every goalie in the league knows he's trying to pull it when he has the puck behind the net. They're all going to get over and cover that blocker side corner. So my suggestion would be to try to tuck it right under that chicken wing. The first one might not go right under the bar, but that's the only way he's going to take these goalies by surprise.
