Morgan Wallen Sentenced To 7 Days Incarcerated At A DUI Detention Center After Being Found Guilty Of Chair Throwing

Seems a little strange they'd sentence Morgan Wallen to a DUI detention center, considering he wasn't arrested for drinking and driving. Not for the chair throwing incident. He was reportedly arrested for a DUI in Nashville back in 2016, but those charges were eventually dropped.

Taste of Country - What's far less widely known is that Nashville police also arrested Morgan Wallen on Jan. 18, 2016. He faced charges of misdemeanor driving under the influence after that arrest, which prosecutors later dropped.

It's not possible to obtain further details about that arrest and the decision not to prosecute, since it no longer appears on government websites. An employee at the Davidson County Court Clerk's office tells Taste of Country that the most likely reason is that the case has been expunged.

So maybe they took that into account. Or maybe they just do that if you're a country music superstar and they don't want to make you go to regular jail. Or maybe they just assume anybody with a history of alcohol related arrests is probably drinking and driving on a regular basis, and could probably stand to learn a thing or two from DUI school. If we're being honest, that's pretty sound logic. I'm just thinking of anybody throughout my life who may have been capable of drunk-heaving a chair off the top of a 4-story building.

I've known a few of those guys in my life, and I'm pretty confident they weren't shy about throwing back a number of beers at the bar and swerving their way home. But they also weren't world famous country music artists with millions of dollars in the bank. They had likely just finished drinking away the better portion of their net worth prior to getting behind the wheel.

I couldn't help but notice they hit Morgan Wallen with a stiff $350 fine as well.

The fines that come along with prison or jail sentences never seem to match up. Morgan Wallen is being stripped of his freedom for 7 days (not terrible but a little annoying). He'll be reporting to a probation officer for the next 2 years (by far the worst part of this). And just to make sure he's really learned his lesson, the judge hits him with a $350 fine (what's even the point).

I think about that every time I see one of those 'MAXIMUM PENALTY' street signs. Like this 'NO DUMPING' sign for example.

So if I'm caught dumping… do I have a choice of paying $1000 to make it all go away, or spend 60 days in jail where I'll miss 4 paychecks, which not to brag, are ALL for more money than the fine itself? I know it's probably not that simple, but the monetary value of the fine and the number of days spent in jail never seem to match up. Feels like they should be able to raise one and lower the other. If I were Morgan Wallen, I might ask if they'd consider multiplying my fine by 100, maybe 1000, in exchange for shaving a little time of everything else.

Anyways, 7 days of DUI class, 2 years probation, and 1 Morgan Wallen bar tab seems like a fair enough punishment. Although throwing a chair off a roof that high is pretty bad. Like could potentially kill somebody bad. That's a pretty damn crowded area. If that catches an old woman with a walker she's lights out. He's damn lucky that didn't hit anyone square on. But maybe 7 days of not-at-all-hard time will teach him a valuable lesson about mixing drinking and chairs. Maybe we'll get a country song out of it. One of Morgan Wallen's famous country songs that country music fans say isn't real country but is super catchy nonetheless.
