Sounds Like America Is About To Be The Soccer Capital Of The World

First the World Cup in 2026 and now looking like the Club World Cup is coming in 2029. America was once a land where the only people who watched soccer were parents who were watching their 8 year olds get some exercise until their kids played "real sports" and they did it reluctantly. Sliced oranges, juice boxes, and eye rolls. That was what soccer was in the United States until very recently. Now, it feels like the sport is booming here. EPL on every weekend. Champions League also has a national TV deal. You can basically watch any game, in any country you want, whenever you want. And now the big leagues across the world have their eyes set on our scrooge McDuck vault of sports money.

Personally...I think the club world cup is stupid. We already have Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League and I am not even fully aware of how the last two tournaments in that list work. Do we really need another? I think that is a gripe Americans have with soccer leagues...too many competitions and no playoffs.

Everyone, and I mean everyone, who has heard my take on the Premier League having a playoff format at the end of the year HATES this idea. Doesn't matter if you're a Tottenham fan in Chicago or an Arsenal fan midget from Zimbabwe...they all hate it. I think if you want to guard against players wearing themselves out and playing 11-12 months a year in some cases going to a playoff and removing the Carabao Cup would ease some of that. And then...the TV rights package would give the Prem so much money that the idea of a Super League would never even come up. I digress though. It won't happen so we will get another meaningless tournament instead as another cash grab. I will of course watch, but it won't be as good.

The Premier Leauge, I'll admit, is basically perfect as it is. It dominates the entire calendar like the NFL, but with a longer season and the drama that makes the NBA look calm. All in all, it's the best league in the world. Find a team that grabs you and jump on board.
