'Maybe They Were Too Quick To Throw The Dirt On Us' - UConn Is Winning Games And Dan Hurley Is Back To Calling Out People Who Doubt Him

We all spent a good amount of time making fun of Dan Hurley and UConn out in Maui. It was easy. But I don't think anyone with a brain was throwing dirt on them just yet. Weird shit happens in college basketball, especially early in the season. Both things can be true here. UConn looked like shit in Maui, don't look like the last two years yet can still be a title contender. It's easy to overreact on a game-to-game basis in college basketball because you see a loss and think it means a lot. For most teams, it doesn't. If those losses keep adding up, then sure, let's have a conversation.

Except UConn had more games after Maui. Let me clarify. They had more games that mattered. A win over Baylor and now a win at Texas. Hell, they still have a game at MSG against Gonzaga on Saturday. A win there and Maui becomes completely irrelevant for the most part. It's part of a resume but not summing up UConn's season like it did a week and a half ago.

I don't know if it's the back-to-back titles or the fact people watch Maui, but there was a turn on Dan Hurley this year. I still love the guy, he's exactly what college basketball needs. But there was a turn and that's awesome. Dan Hurley should be a villain in college basketball. Most teams who win titles are villains. People hate Kentucky/Calipari, Duke, UNC, Kansas/Self. The only time I can remember a dominant title winner not being a villain was Jay Wright and Nova. You get the point here. But Hurley being a lunatic (always has been) and someone that is now hated by the majority of fans is what UConn should want. It's what college basketball needs.
