Miami Royally Fucks Up, Blows a 21-0 Lead to Syracuse and May Have Played Itself Out of the Playoff
Miami ... what the fuck are you doing?
It seems all those wins the Hurricanes came away with by the skin of their teeth at the beginning of the season finally caught up to them at the end of the year against Georgia Tech and Syracuse. Miami scored on its first three drives against the Orange to take a 21-0 lead and then promptly gave up 42 points in the last three quarters to drop a game it absolutely could not afford to lose.
It seemed a few weeks ago like we might have a logjam of teams who were all relatively deserving of spots in the College Football Playoff and now we're searching for anyone who wants to play in the damn thing. Three-loss Alabama and South Carolina probably don't deserve to be in, but now neither does 10-2 Miami whose best win is ... Florida in Week 1? That was a fundamentally different Gators team with Graham Mertz and if you're looking for the second-best win on the Canes' schedule, best of luck.
This team still has a shot just because everyone else sucks so badly and there are too many spots without enough deserving Playoff teams, but Miami is absolutely not what a CFP team should look like. I hope everyone who championed jumping from four teams all the way to 12 is going to enjoy Miami-South Carolina in the first round.
