That Kind of Year: A Purdue Receiver Thought He Had a TD Catch Before Realizing He Was Standing a Yard Out of Bounds
De'Nylon Morrissette thought he made a great catch in the corner of the end zone to get Purdue back in the game against No. 4 Penn State. Unfortunately, he needed the end zone to be about a yard longer and wider because he was standing completely out of bounds.
In fairness to Morrissette, end zone paint jobs like the one Purdue has are moronic. It's honestly remarkable things like this don't happen more often when teams have a six-inch-wide white line with the same color paint on either side. Out of bounds is painted white specifically for this reason, but somewhere along the way we decided that was too obvious and we needed to get cute with the paint jobs.
I am officially absolving Morrissette of any responsibility for this blunder. He's going full speed and just sees black paint everywhere. The head groundskeeper, however, should issue a public apology to Purdue fans for costing the team six points.
