Report: Tom Cruise Wants Glen Powell To Be The New Lead In The Mission Impossible Franchise, But Glen Powell Says His Mom Would Never Let Him

A day after the trailer for next year's Mission Impossible movie dropped people are speculating what's next for the franchise. Almost certainly this is the end of the road for Tom Cruise's Ethan Hunt in some way or the other. The big question that follows is whether you end the Mission Impossible franchise with that movie or reboot it.

The best answer is for everything to end with Final Reckoning, but I think we all know that money runs the world and these action movies make a whole lot of it at the theaters. At some point down the road, we'll get a reboot or continuation with a new lead. This Jeff Sneider fella, who appears to be known in the movie industry, says that Tom Cruise has dubbed Glen Powell as his suggested successor. Almost like Coach K stepping down at Duke and handing the keys to Jon Scheyer without caring for anyone else's say in the matter.

Doesn't shock me that he'd have heavy input in the torch passing, but my question is can these movies survive and give off a similar "wow factor" without Tom Cruise? I mean he IS Mission Impossible. He makes the magic that comes with Ethan Hunt. It's legit all he thinks about. He isn't just the main character. He hires and fires the right/wrong people to make the movies. He's Bill Belichick if Bill could be a great GM on top of the coach. There's that story Matt Damon brought up on a late night talk show where Tom wanted to do a stunt and the safety guy said no way so Tom fired that safety guy and got a new one who green lit the stunt. It's his world when it comes to the Mission movies and for good reason. These movies are unfuckingbelievable. They are cinema. They'll never win Best Picture at the Oscars, but you bet your ass they'll rock your world for a few hours and have you leaving the theater fully entertained.

Our old friend Pat McAfee decided to give Glen Powell a call during his show today to check in on the news. Being the man that he is, Powell picked up while on the set for his upcoming blockbuster The Running Man. He shot down the rumor saying his mom would never allow him to play that role with the stunts and risks it takes to get the job done.

Turns out this is exactly what he said a few years ago before also getting into the most Tom Cruise story ever about his insistence on Glen Powell going sky diving.

Tom Cruise certainly has his baggage with the whole Scientology shit, but man does he seem like one of the best guys in the world to be friends with, if you can get him to like you.

Obviously Glen Powell is the new "guy" when it comes to blockbuster movies. Top Gun: Maverick, Twisters, and don't tell anyone, but I really liked him in Anyone But You. Good looking, charismatic, and young. The trifecta. Haven't heard anyone say a bad word about him to this point. Kinda makes sense he'd be a top candidate to run the Mission movies. Gotta somehow get mom's blessing, which seems like a big obstacle. Let's invite Tom Cruise over for dinner and see her tell him no in person. Like Nick Saban trying to flip a recruit from LSU.

There is the school of thought that Powell would want nothing to do with being the next "Ethan Hunt." Why would he? You know you're never gonna live up to what we once had. Not like he's going to be struggling for blockbuster offers anytime soon. You're just setting yourself up for massive failure by taking on that kind of responsibility. He's got it made right now, just keep doing your own thing.

P.S. Kinda cool reading that interview above seeing he wanted to work with Edgar Wright and now he's currently filming a movie with Edgar Wright directing. It's a remake from a movie with Arnold back in the day, which had this synopsis.

In a dystopian America, a falsely convicted policeman gets his shot at freedom when he must forcibly participate in a TV game show where convicts, runners, must battle killers for their freedom.

Yeah you throw that plot with this cast and you have yourself a BANGER
