Syracuse Coach Fran Brown Claims After A Loss He Doesn't Shower "Because I Don't Deserve Soap"
Straight out of a book for football coaches. Just football guy 101. It's funny with these football guys how you never know which angle they are going to have, but they always surprise you. And here's Fran Brown. What does a coach do after a tough loss? Go over game footage? Rethink strategy? Maybe take a shower to wash away the disappointment?” Nope he doesn’t shower after a loss. Perfect football guy rationale.
Now, personally I grew up where coaches would say "you guys played so bad you should shower in your uniforms." Never once did a coach try to ban showers, but again that's what you get with these football guys. One says shower with your uniforms, another says ban showering. Just unreal thought processes with these guys. They really are from Mars.
And honestly, that's what I want in my head coach. You can't get to the D1 head coaching level without being a psychopath. If you're a normal guy, you're coaching JV in middle of nowhere, Iowa. It's the true looney tunes that make it to the big time, and if that means not showering after a loss, that's what you gotta do to make it.
The real questions is how this could affect the team? Is it a way for the players to see that their coach is as committed to winning that he sacrifices his own well being or maybe it shows the coach’s commitment to only rewarding yourself when you win and never when you lose. Or can the players not see past that and just think the man stinks because he refuses to shower? During a team huddle if coach grabs the guys attention does the stench overpower everything he's about to say? Time will tell but I'll say this, Syracuse's next game is a must watch if this is how the coach is acting.
