Villanova Gets Embarrassed At Home By Columbia, Needs To Save Its Program And Fire Kyle Neptune Already
The Mark Titus Show posed this question that basically every Nova fan has been screaming for the last 18 months or so. Yes, it's time to fire Kyle Neptune. Why? Because this is how the game ended:
That's right. A loss at home to Columbia. This follows years with losses to Portland, Temple, DePaul, Penn, St. Joe's, Drexel and 0 trips to the NCAA Tournament. It's now a Kyle Neptune problem. You can't use any other excuse when it's year 3 and this is happening right off the bat. This isn't an NIL problem. This isn't a transfer portal problem. This is Kyle Neptune being an awful coach at a program that should be competing for national titles.
I've had people (numerous even) tell me this feels like a zombie season for Nova. They know it's a lame duck coach. There are like 2.5 guys on the roster that feel like high major players. Tyler Perkins can get there, but it's year 1 after transferring from Penn. If he's your 3rd best player in night 2, not exactly the best thing going forward. It just feels like everyone quit on the team already except Eric Dixon. He stayed (for some reason) and showed up. There's just no way you can keep Kyle Neptune unless he somehow makes a Final Four this year. It's year 3! No shit it was going to be nearly impossible to replace Jay Wright but you can't have these losses. Not to mention they don't even have an AD right now, still an interim AD. You think an AD wants to come in and not revamp what should be a title contending basketball program?
Jay Wright got to help pick his guy. They brought a system guy back home after a year at Fordham. That's fine. But now in year 3, it's time to worry about your program. Jay ain't leaving his spot on campus to come back.
