There's Really Nothing Better Than When Your Favorite Football Team Doesn't Make You Feel Like Jumping Off A Cliff
Is it ridiculous to allow so much of your emotional well-being to be invested in a group of 53 millionaires all playing a game once a week? Of course it is. You were born in a certain geographical area, or your parents are from a certain geographical area and have passed their fandom down to you. Guys who played this game their whole life were then selected to play for the team in your geographical area, though they typically have very little connection to the geographical area themselves. But because they wear the uniform of the team you support, those 53 players play a pretty critical role in how your week is going to go.
It sounds crazy when you lay it all out like that. And you'd hope there are other things in your life that mean more to you than a football game. Maybe things like friends and family. But the fact of the matter is that most of us are pretty sick in the head, and how your favorite football team plays on Sunday is going to significantly impact your Monday. And woah baby does it frickin' rule when your favorite team doesn't play like a bunch of dickheads.
The whole day instantly changes. It all starts the night before when you can rest your head on your pillow and not go through all the idiotic mistakes those clowns made throughout the game. You get to sleep peacefully, and then when it's time to wake up and get coffee in the morning, you don't have to deal with anyone asking you, "can you believe those assholes?" in line. You can turn on sports talk radio without every other calling wanting to blow up the entire organization. You can scroll through Twitter while you're supposed to be working and laugh to yourself while other fanbases are reeling in misery from yesterday's atrocious defeat. You get to enjoy your dinner without contemplating what's the meaning of life as your favorite team is destined to be a total failure and will only continue to shatter your heart as the season progresses. A win on Sunday might not make your entire week better, but it sure as shit makes your Monday better. And a better Monday leads to a better Tuesday, and so on and so forth.
It's been a while since folks in Philly could feel this way on a Sunday. I guess it would have been Monday November 27th of last year after the Eagles beat the Bills 37-34 in OT to improve to 10-1 on the season. Since that moment, they lost 6 of their final 7 games of the season with their only win being against a dog shit Giants team. The 2024 season had been mired with inconsistencies so far this year. The 2 losses were both in disgusting fashion, and even the wins have had most people questioning why they even bother with this team. Every single Monday morning this season, sports talk radio has been filled with callers who cannot stand Nick Sirianni and Jalen Hurts. So this is the first time in 336 days where everybody can just go about our Monday without a single complaint. It's incredible.
And sure. There are plenty of other fanbases out there who are wildly more tormented than Eagles fans have been over the years. I get that. But at the same time, I don't give a shit about those people. In a perfect world they'd all be miserable forever. Just my opinion.
Go Birds.
