The NCAA Is Investigating Dan Lanning's "12 Men On The Field" Strategy To Close The Loophole He Exploited

So yesterday I blogged that Dan Lanning confirmed his 12 men on the field penalty was intentional and that Oregon had not only practiced in without any guarantee they would need it, they also executed it to PERFECTION. He placed a 12th man on the field just before the Buckeyes snapped the ball, allowed no significant gain, gave up the obvious 5 yard penalty, replayed 3rd down, and the time didn't get put back on the clock. If I knew how to blog an emoji of the Chef's kiss right now I would. Genius move. Vrabel to Belichick-esque. And listen, one thing about me is that I am willing to tip my cap when I get beat. And I would like to shake Dan Lanning's hand this morning, because although the loss to Oregon has absolutely terrorized both my mind and my body.....

....I still respect a those who put in the extra time and effort to outsmart their opponent. Dan Lanning did that fair and square to us on Saturday night, and while it fucking sucked that it could've been the difference between winning and losing for Ohio State, I can applaud Lanning for earning it.

....but now the NCAA is looking to close the loophole he exploited.

The NCAA Football Playing Rules Committee is actively 'engaged' in examining the play for possible action," Dellenger wrote. "The Big Ten officiating crew handled the play appropriately, Shaw said, but the rules committee is discussing a way to address the play."

This has to be the ultimate feather in the cap, right? The rule is literally going to be changed because Dan Lanning is too smart. I think that if this ever happens, in ANY sport, the person who exploits the loophole should get to name the new rule. So from now on, starting here in a few weeks I'm sure when the NCAA rules committee determines that 12 men on the field does in fact put the time back on the clock late in the 4th quarter, this should be added to the book as "The Dan Lanning Outsmarted Ryan Day" rule.
