It Took 24 Years But We Finally Saw A Right Handed Batter Hit A Home Run Into McCovey Cove
File this under things I never thought we'd see, I thought it was impossible. Thought there was no shot we ever saw a righty go opposite field INTO McCovey Cove for a home run in San Francisco. Oracle Park opened in 2000 and for 24 years only lefties had deposited souvenirs into the bay....but we finally have our first righty to do it. Heliot Ramos, come on down! Smoked this pitch and showed off his opposite field power in a big way. 394 feet the other way is no small task, that ball was absolutely pissed on. I wonder if Dave and the other kayakers even pay attention when a righty is up. Like was that their bathroom break and then they had to scramble when they realized the ball was coming their way? When I think "big oppo power" I don't think Heliot Ramos, sorry about it. 167 splash homers since the ballpark opened and this was #1 by a guy in the righty batters box, pretty cool moment for Ramos for being the first.
And the fact that he did it on the fly makes it so much better, didn't bounce it in for a cheapie, he airmailed this bad boy right into the water. I've said for a long time that a body of water is the coolest thing you can hit a home run into. Better than a building, better than hitting it into trees, there is just something awesome about hitting a ball into some water. McCovey Cove is one of the biggest and best targets for people to hit in the bigs, the Warehouse in Baltimore, the Steel building in San Diego, the Apple at Citi Field, all of those have big targets on them. Pretty cool that we finally saw a righty hit it into the cove, great call by the Giants booth too. They recognized what a cool moment this was for Ramos. A lot of big time power bats from the right side have played there but none of them did what Heliot did. A true "where were you moment" for us baseball fans. Cool stuff here by Ramos.
