Apparently The Phillies Were So Dominant From 2008-11 Because They Fattened Their Opponents Up With The Best Cheesesteaks In Philly
The city of Philadelphia will always look back on the 2008 Phillies team as one of the most fun teams this city has ever gotten to cheer for. Obviously things got started with the '07 team winning the division for the first time since 1993, but 2008 brought baseball back to Philly after 15 years of pure shit. But as incredible as that team was, it'll always be a little disappointing that they were only able to win one World Series in that stretch from 2008-2011.
They made it back to the World Series in '09. They brought in Roy Halladay and he won a Cy Young in 2010. They were the only 100+ win team in baseball in 2011. The roster was absolutely stacked, which definitely helps you win some games. A cheesesteak so damn good and so damn irresistible that the team wouldn't even allow them to be served to the Phillies? I need to get my hand on one of these bad boys.
This was such next level warfare from the Phillies organization. It's one thing to come up with an idea to serve up some food that'll make your opponents sick before a game. Anybody can come up with that, but also anybody can quickly snuff that out. However, to go and serve your opponents one of the most delicious meals they've ever had in their life to the point where they literally can't stop stuffing their faces before a game? Well that's the perfect crime.
It's not your fault the visiting players couldn't stop crushing cheesesteaks all day long before a 4:05 start in the middle of July in 95° weather. That's on them. And by the time the 3rd inning comes around, that cheese starts to settle in their stomach and hardens up like a brick log. Have fun chasing down a ball hit to the gap when you've got a pound of fried onions wreaking havoc on your insides and you've fully broken out into the meat sweats.
We need to figure out who was making these cheesesteaks at the time. This was before Angelo's, so I'd be curious to know if they would still be considered the best cheesesteaks in Philly. But I'm willing to do some investigative work if that's what needs to be done.
