Butthurt Star Wars Fans Are Waging War On 'Wookieepedia' Over Changing A C-List Character's Birth Date

It is a dark time for the fandom.

This week on 'The Acolyte' - the latest (not-so-great-but-not-nearly-as-bad-as-people-say) Star Wars series on Disney Plus - we saw the brief return of Jedi Master Ki-Adi-Mundi from the prequel trilogy! If that name doesn't ring a bell, just take a look at ol' penishead over here....

If you STILL don't remember him, that's understandable, because he only has about two minutes and thirty seconds of screentime and five lines of dialogue across all three prequels. He's a C-list character at best, but he got a little more shine in the cartoons and video games and I figured all the die hard fans would at least get a kick out of seeing him pop up here like I did, doing their best Rick Dalton impression and pointing at the screen….

BOY OH BOY WAS I WRONG, THOUGH!

I failed to realize that the inclusion of Ki-Adi-Mundi in 'The Acolyte' actually broke the Star Wars universe forever, and drove the final nail in its coffin. Everything George Lucas created is now all for nothing, because folks - canon has been broken.

You see, back before Lucasfilm was sold to Disney, Ki-Adi-Mundi's birthday was listed as 93 BBY (Before Battle of Yavin - when Luke blew up the Death Star) on Wookieepedia; the origin of this birthday was the back of a trading card that was printed twenty one years ago, in 2003.

The Acolyte, however, takes place around forty years prior to that original birth year for Ki-Adi-Mundi - and Wookieepedia updated his age to account for such, destroying everything some people love about Star Wars….

For some reason, this is the hill that Star Wars fans have chosen to die on this week - despite ALL LEGENDS MATERIAL (books, games, comics, trading cards, etc.) being wiped from canon back in 2012 when Disney acquired Lucasfilm to give them a clean slate. Like - in actual current canon, Ki-Adi-Mundi never had birth date specified, and we had no idea how long his species' lifespan could be. I guess that's just completely being ignored for the sake for phony internet outrage, though. Wookieepedia has now asked Star Wars fans to stop sending their editors death threats and messages saying they hope their pets die over this.

This same group of fans are ALSO outraged over Ki-Adi-Mundi being alerted of a threat to the Jedi in 'The Acolyte', because one of his five lines from the prequels is "The Sith are extinct, they have been for nearly a millennium!"

So far in the series, there is no indication whatsoever that he would know that this threat is a Sith threat, and he was specifically left out of the scenes that feature the Sith character later on, but these people would rather be angry over perceived retcons and "shots at George Lucas" than put any thought into the arguments they're making.

It's not like George Lucas was the king of retconning, anyway. He would never go back and change something related to Star Wars after the fact. Not something like special effects, and certainly not plot points like Darth Vader somehow creating and being the father of C-3PO, or the Force being found in your blood count and not being the thing that binds/surrounds all of us, or Stormtroopers being clones of Boba Fett's dad, who he is also an unaltered clone of, or Obi-Wan knowing R2-D2 for decades before the events of 'A New Hope' and not recognizing him, or Luke and Leia being brother and sister after being involved in a trilogy-long love triangle, or Darth Maul surviving getting cut in half in 'The Phantom Menace' - you get my point here?

Those fighting tooth and nail to "defend George's vision" are the EXACT fans who drove him out of the business in the first place. This is one of the reasons many turn down Star Wars projects to this day - who would want to deal with this fanbase?!

You can say 'The Acolyte' is a pretty boring show aimed more at young-adults and kids than grown ups, you can say it looks shockingly low budget despite Disney throwing $180mil at it, you can say the writing is shallow and the twists feel predictable, you could say the child acting is rough - and I'd have a hard time arguing any of that. When you start trying to pick apart dumb bullshit like this, though, and claim that THIS is the death of Star Wars, we have to point at laugh. These are grown men shitting their diapers over a Wookieepedia birth date edit - not to Luke Skywalker, or Han Solo, or Princess Leia, or Darth Vader, or Chewbacca - but to Ki-Adi-Mundi. Ol' penishead fuckeroo.

We'll see if everyone keeps this same "Disney killed Star Wars" energy when Andor Season 2 drops. People love to make a 'Disney Star Wars' exception for Andor and even 'Rogue One' in the same way Barstool's haters will say, "Barstool sucks….except for Pardon My Take and Spittin Chiclets!"
