The Big 12 Is Reportedly In Discussions With Allstate To Potentially Rename the League to the 'Big Allstate Conference' (Yes, Really)
Action Network — The Big 12 Conference and Allstate are in discussions about selling the league's naming rights to the insurance giant, sources told Action Network.
Name possibilities for the Big 12 include “The Big Allstate Conference” or the “The Allstate 12 Conference,” sources said. The multi-year deal could earn the league between $30-$50 million annually to be divided among its 16 league members, sources said.
The Big 12 also is considering a financial company for its naming rights, which would pay the league slightly more than Allstate, sources said.
If you needed any more evidence that a new era of college sports is upon us, here you go. The Big Allstate Conference? What the fuck are we doing?
The Big 12 should just have a giant neon sign behind the main podium at its media days that says "WE ARE BROKE". I know everybody that isn't the SEC or Big Ten is looking at any way to make some extra cash right now, but at some point you have to preserve your dignity. Even the Allstate Big 12 or something like that is pretty ridiculous, but at least you maintain what the league has been called for 30 years.
All of this is going way too far way too quickly. Corporate logos are going to be on football fields and basketball courts as soon as this year — which means it's only a matter of time until they're on jerseys, too. Conferences are going to be named for insurance companies. There's a non-zero chance we see actual teams named for sponsors soon enough. I can't wait for the 2028 matchup between the Tennessee Pilots and Alabama Crimson Tide Detergent.
The current state of college football might turn me into a communist. Get this capitalist bullshit out of my sport.
