The Haters (Brandon Walker) Still Don't Understand Anything About Notre Dame
I am so tired of the same old uninformed arguments about Notre Dame. Brandon almost hit for the ND-blind hate cycle in one minute.
Notre Dame was relevant with their national fan base 60 and 70 years ago.
Brother, they still have a national fan base. That is why they're the only team in the country that can sell out games ANYWHERE they play and they always bake in a neutral site game. They've sold out games in Ireland, Boston, New York, Texas, Maryland, Chicago, and Vegas. It's fucking Irish manifest destiny. Sea to shining sea. Which is also how they recruit. I'll admit that the addition of the West Coast to the BigTen changes the landscape for ND's independence, but Notre Dame recruits everywhere. They need a game per year in California. They play all over the southeast. The ACC schedule helps with other sports, but they've also played Georgia and Tennessee in my lifetime and have Alabama and Texas A&M coming up in the future. Sorry for not wanting to play loser programs like every other conference power is obligated to play every year. I'd puke if I had to watch Notre Dame play in Evanston or Starkville every other year. Ohio State plays one awesome non-conference game per year. The last two years it was...Notre Dame. Pretty relevant, I'd say.
The thing that really gets under my skin is this idea that Notre Dame doesn't join conferences because of their money/TV deals. It takes roughly 5 seconds to google this. Notre Dame would make WAY MORE MONEY if they got an equal share of the BigTen revenue. Brandon's argument is from 1995. Tough look for the number one college football personality.
Brandon has said that Notre Dame was like the 7th best program in America repeatedly. He's been fair-minded historically with the Irish. Now he's arguing about their relevance as if Willingham is still the coach. Is he saying that a top 10 program isn't relevant? How do you circle that square?
Notre Dame doesn't want to join a conference because they actually stand for something besides money. Every other program in the country is willing to throw away 100+ years of tradition so their administrators can line their own pockets will still filing their taxes as non-profit entities. It's basically fraud. Notre Dame doesn't think they're better than that. They ARE better than that. They're the only ones standing up for what made college football great. Brandon is cheering for the people who want to turn college football into minor league NFL. Sad.
And when those powerful, money beholden, administrators from the power conferences tried to cancel college football because of Covid, Notre Dame was the only one with an independent mind that said no, fuck you Fauci, we are playing football
Cheering the idea to have, in theory, a two loss ACC champion in the top 4 instead of an uNDefeated Notre Dame because you don't like Notre Dame is just wrong. You want the best teams, based on merit, to be rewarded. Now, if next year when Notre Dame plays a pathetic schedule for the first time in my life…they shouldn't be automatically granted a bye week because on paper I could see an argument where going unbeaten vs the 2024 schedule doesn't merit a top 4 seed. That's different than saying they should be shut out just because they're not following what "the system" wants. There's plenty of systems that get things wrong and do bad things. Notre Dame has preserved and earned the right to have their freedom and they should be praised for it.
