Conference Realignment Continues To Ruin College Sports - Washington State And Oregon State Hoops Are Reportedly Joining The WCC, For Now
And there it is. Oregon State and Washington State have finally found a home for basketball (and some other sports) in the WCC, you know the conference everyone loves to make fun of because Gonzaga just dominates it. We talk about how dumb conference realignment is. Whether it's Maryland in the Big 10 or even Syracuse/Pitt/Louisville/BC in the ACC or anything else, here we are. The Pac-12 is dead and there has never been a fall from grace than these two programs. You go from playing in a major conference to the WCC and having to beat Gonzaga to make the NCAA Tournament.
That is if Gonzaga even stays. There are still the rumors of Gonzaga joining the Big 12 or Big East for basketball. Honestly, they should. Conferences don't matter anymore except to get money from. Regional rivalries are dying fast. The leagues we knew growing up are dead. Nothing makes sense anymore. It's the dumbest thing in college sports - behind their refs and ahead of NIL/transfers.
I know football is the moneymaker here, but I'm a college basketball guy. It's what I care about the most. It's what I dedicate my life to basically. This is also going to be a 2-year deal. So we could see Oregon State and Washington State move to the MWC to join football. Whatever. Just make it end. I'm so sick of dealing with conference realignment and trying to figure out who is going where and who is playing who. What was so bad about the way it was? You know, when the ACC actually meant teams on the Atlantic Coast. When the Pac-12 was alive. When the SEC didn't mean Texas and Oklahoma. When numbers in the Big 10 and Big 12 actually matched.
From an Elite Eight a couple years ago to the WCC and a school not named Gonzaga. Yeah, Oregon State and Washington State are the biggest losers.
