Florida State Is The CFP Committee's Biggest Problem Ever

Well, Florida State finished the season 13-0. If you told any Noles fan that in August, they'd have kissed you on the mouth and shit themselves with excitement. And while FSU's perfect season may end up being a historic one, it might not be for the reasons the Seminole faithful would like.

No undefeated Power Five team has ever been left out of the College Football Playoff. And I was adamant as recently as three hours ago that a 13-0 FSU team must be included in the CFP regardless of who was playing quarterback or any other position, for that matter. But then I watched that team play in the ACC Championship Game and I'm not sure it should be in the Top 25 if you were just ranking the best teams in the country based on the eye test. It was a tough watch on the offensive side of the ball.

Granted, this game was with third-string freshman quarterback Brock Glenn and back-up Tate Rodemaker would be ready to go again for the Playoff, but I'm not sure how much better that upgrade makes the Seminoles.

There's no debate that Texas and Alabama — and Georgia, Ohio State and probably a dozen other teams — are both light years better than Florida State. If you're exclusively trying to find the four best teams in the country, FSU ain't one of 'em without Jordan Travis. But those teams with a loss are also inherently less deserving than an undefeated ACC champion. And while we think we know the Noles would get their shit kicked in, 1) they earned that opportunity and 2) maybe Rodemaker and Co. author one of the greatest stories in college football history. The games are played on the field.

I thought I knew what the committee was going to do going into tonight, but now I'm really not sure. You can make the case either way. But if FSU finds itself on the outside looking in tomorrow afternoon, Noles fans would be well within their rights to riot in the streets.
