The Premier League Is Going To Trial A Hockey Rule...The Penalty Box
I LOVE this idea for soccer. There are way too many times in my opinion where a guy gets hit with a second yellow that wasn't particularly harsh and he's done. Game over. Two penalties shouldn't equal a game-misconduct in my opinion. I love the drama of it, but it's such an insane disadvantage to kick a player out of the game. We saw something like this play out in the Forest game over the weekend. It worked in Forest's favor, but still felt wrong. Allegedly, a player on Brighton called the ref a bald prick
I mean...sticks and stones, right? Throw out of the game for being a little mean? Feels excessive. I love when refs run up and flash a card in someone's face, but it's such a gamechanger that I'd love to see an medium level card where a guy has to go sit in a box and feel shame for 10 mins. Maybe add in the fact that the player must be subbed out after the 10 minutes in the penalty box. Harsh penalty, high drama, doesn't necessarily decide the game. I also think that the penalty box should be right in front of the opposing team's most vocal section. Let the fans give it to him for that 10 mins. Everyone has some fun.
Add in a penalty box and a playoff at the end of the year and the Premier League will never be better
