"Gladiator 2" Will Feature A Baboon Fight Because Crazy Ass Ridley Scott Saw A Video Of Baboons Attacking Tourists In Johannesburg
I am baffled by what "Gladiator 2" will look like. It's been a long time since I've even seen part of the first movie, but my opinion on it doesn't really matter. The film is a classic. It won Best Picture and helped win Russell Crowe an Academy Award for Best Actor. I know several people who think it hasn't aged super well, but it was a revolutionary film for its time. It was also kind of a closed book. Ridley Scott has had a boner about making "Gladiator 2" for a long time, and now it seems like it's actually happening, and it's going to be fucking wild.
I understand that Ridley Scott is one of the most famous film directors of all time. He's won Oscars and made some of the most famous motion pictures ever, but it does not get talked about enough how much the dude has lost his fucking mind over the last decade or so. I would argue his films have taken a serious dip in quality for a long time. Remember that shitty "Robin Hood" movie that he did? Yuck. But his quotes to the press are often bizarre. He was asked several years back if Deckard was a replicant in "Blade Runner," and this was his response.
"Uh, I don't know about that." I said, "But you have to be, because Gaff, who leaves a trail of origami everywhere, will leave you a little piece of origami at the end of the movie to say, 'I've been here, I left her alive, and I can't resist letting you know what's in your most private thoughts when you get drunk is a fucking unicorn!'" Right? So, I love Beavis and Butthead, so what should follow that is "Duh." So now it will be revealed [in the sequel], one way or the other.
The guy has been around for a long time. Much like athletes, directors have their primes. Ridley Scott is past his, but I'm definitely fascinated by "Gladiator 2." I don't think it will be good, but, like, it could be. It'll be very difficult to re-capture the magic of the first movie, but at least we'll have baboons.
