"Sell The Team Dude...Take Mommy And Daddy's Money Somewhere Else" - Oakland A's Pitcher Trevor May Eviscerated Owner John Fisher During His Retirement Announcement
Trevor May retired from baseball today. Now usually that news would only be deemed bloggable by a baseball version of Greenie. No offense to Trevor May, but a 9 year reliever with a career ERA north of 4 calling it quits doesn't exactly move the needle. Well, when you announce your retirement and proceed to eviscerate your cheap, scumbag, sorry excuse of an owner on the way out, you get EVERYONE's attention. That's how it's done.
I almost want to believe May retired just so he could get that off his chest. He couldn't wait a minute longer to put John J. Fisher on a poster. We've covered the extensive scumbag actions of Fisher on the blog, but hearing it from a player is different. And funny enough, it's all the same stuff you hear from outside the clubhouse. He doesn't deserve to own a team. He abused his family's fortune. Born on third base. Takes no pride in owning a professional franchise. Doesn't care about his employees. Hides from the criticism and runs from the media. The one line that really stood out to me was "if you're gonna be a greedy fuck, own it." 10/10. Just calling out the coward that Fisher is.
Trevor May just did something that I think most human beings dream of —ripping your former boss to shreds with virtually no ramifications to follow. May is retiring from the sport and won't face any fines or consequences for his words here. Oh shucks he won't be able to get a job working for the Oakland A's broadcasting team in the future. A real shame. Dude just let it rip and my god that must have felt good. A little less violent way out than Wesley in Wanted, but the same effectiveness.
Well done Trevor May. Would be a real shame if he continued to pry open the can of worms that rest in Fisher's office as he further enjoys retirement.
Sad part is, I doubt John Fisher cares at all. That clip may very well never see his eye balls. Manfred will continue to allow his pal to own a team and they'll all count their money laughing to the bank.
Either way, that was a cool peak behind the curtain of how the players feel about this guy. Love to see it, keep it coming.
