Happy 1-Year Anniversary To The Rhys Hoskins Playoff Bat Spike
Beyond iconic. The Phillies already won a playoff series at this point in the 2022 season besting the Cardinals. They even won in Atlanta before coming back to the Bank for Game 3. But this moment the postseason officially returned to the City of Philadelphia. It was over a decade since the Phillies were in the playoffs and this dinger off Spencer Strider, Rhys spiking the bat, and the crowd eruption ensured The Fightins were BACK in full Red October mode. The place absolutely went batshit and hasn't calmed down since. A true franchise and city defining moment. Good Lord willing, we'll see another one like this from Rhys as he may return for The Fall Classic.
Also, keep in mind Rhys didn't invent the patented bat spike. And that's fine. Why? Because it was conjured up by Chief Vibes Officer Garrett Stubbs in a walkoff dinger earlier that very season.
And then Bryson Stott continued the tradition these playoffs with the first ever Bat Spike Grand Slammy.
Beautiful spikes all around. Red October is in full swing again with the Diamondbacks on Monday.
PS - Sorry about that one, Low T. There's always next year. Or life.
