Jerry Seinfeld Suggests A "Seinfeld" Reunion Show With Larry David Is In The Works
Jerry is pretty media-savvy so he must have known this was going to get out there the second he said it.
SOURCE - In response to a question from an audience member during his standup show at the Wang Theatre in Boston on Saturday, the comedian teased that a re-envisioned finale may be in the works.
Seinfeld was asked whether he liked the TV sitcom’s finale. “Well, I have a little secret for you about the ending. But I can’t really tell it because it is a secret,” he responded.
“Here’s what I’ll tell you, OK, but you can’t tell anybody. Something is going to happen that has to do with that ending. Hasn’t happened yet,” Seinfeld said to loud gasps and applause.
“And just what you are thinking about, Larry and I have also been thinking about it. So you’ll see, we’ll see.”
I've always hated the ending to Seinfeld. I never thought Jerry, Elaine, George and Kramer were that terrible. They were selfish for sure but a lot of the humor came from them being relatable. Me and my friends talk a lot more like the Seinfeld characters than the ones from Friends.
We sort of got a new look at a finale with the behind the scenes look on that season of Curb Your Enthusiasm. That was so funny and well done, I felt like the show finally got the closure it deserved. So when I first saw this, I did get a little nervous. It's risky doing another finale. Going back to the well can taint the water.
Look at Arrested Development. What they did on Netflix kind of ruins the entire show for me. I can still watch the old episodes and laugh but I do still think of how horrible that reboot was. The last season of Parks & Rec was so bad, it's made me not want to do a rewatch.
Seinfeld is in a different stratosphere for me compared to those other shows. I don't know if I'd say it's the funniest comedy ever but it's the best. Curb is funnier but has the blessings of coming out afterwards and being able to get away with so much more on HBO. I put Seinfeld with Cheers as shows that feel timeless to me. But I'm also from that time when it came out. Maybe watching it now for younger people, they might find the laugh track and innocent way they speak of certain topics to be archaic. They might be right.
But this wouldn't be for them. This would be for us older people. People who made sure they were home on Thursday nights to watch Must See TV. You couldn't miss an episode because DVR wasn't invented yet and you know everyone was going to be talking about Seinfeld at work or school that next morning. I'm here for whatever reboot Jerry Seinfeld wants to make. He's absolutely earned that. Plus Larry David is going to be involved? I am beyond excited. It can't be any worse than all of them ending up in jail, right?
