The Rays Held A Champagne Celebration After Last Night's Game Despite Clinching A Playoff Spot A Week Ago
Yeah, this was a weird one. I felt like I missed something. The Tampa Bay Rays have become one of those teams that is just always good. I understand having a subdued celebration at this point. This is a team that has consistently made the playoffs over the last half-decade. I remember back when my Tigers clinched a postseason birth in 2014, they didn't even have any celebration. They were trying to win the division, which they ultimately did by a game against the Kansas City Royals.
The Rays clinched a playoff berth about a week ago. While the Orioles' magic number is down to one, the Rays are still mathematically capable of winning their division. But for whatever reason, they decided to celebrate their playoff berth last night.
My initial reaction to this was that I thought maybe the Rays were looking forward to celebrating a playoff berth at Tropicana Field in front of their home fans. But that's not the case. The Rays just finished off the series in Boston against the Red Sox. They celebrated a playoff berth a week after they clinched in the opposing teams' clubhouse. Strange.
This doesn't change how I feel about the Tampa Bay Rays. They're always a dangerous ball club. Their front office is as good as any in sports. Even with the insane amount of injuries that they've had, they're still very much capable of making a run in October.
As happy as I am that I cleaned up my act and got sober, I am saddened by the fact that I will never have the opportunity to enjoy a locker room champagne celebration. I am still determining when I would've had that opportunity. I'm not an athlete, but damn, it looks like so much fun. It's why I can't even get on the Rays here. Any chance you have for a champagne celebration, you have to take it. These guys work their dicks off. Pour one out for the boys in the clubhouse.
