Don't tell Manny Machado that the Padres are out of the NL Wild Card race, that doesn't fly with him. The guy is literally trying to will the Padres to the Playoffs on his own back. They've been awful this year, them and the Mets have given folks a lot of joy when they lose. But San Diego never really bottomed out, they have stuck around. And don't look now but they have won 8 in a row and are 9-1 in their last 10. They are only 4 games back in the Wild Card so unless someone in front of them absolutely chokes it away they are probably done....but they aren't dead yet.
Manny made sure they didn't die last night. 4 for 4 with 3 RBI and 2 homers. The guy is doing it all. After the game he gave a fantastic interview and capped it off in the perfect Manny way.
Nothing like an F bomb flying through the speakers to get your fans back into it. That's the kind of rallying cry that can lead a team through October (if they make it there) and maybe sell a few t-shirts along the way. Again, it's been an awful season for the Dads but they ain't done yet. They may have gotten too hot too late, but Manny isn't going down without swinging. The eventual go-ahead homer last night was his 30th of the season, this is the 8th time in his career he's hit 30 in a season, the guy just produces every year.
Oh yeah, and Manny has tennis elbow, which will require surgery whenever the season is over.
The guy easily could have shut it down and started his vacation early. Nope, like the leader he is, he's willing his team there until they are 100% eliminated. That is a guy who you want on your team 100 times out of 100. Now let's fucking go, San Diego. Make a run at this thing.
