"Delayed Choice Theory" Is The Single Most Confusing Idea I've Ever Heard
I mention the above theory on the snake draft yesterday. That is John Wheeler. He was a physicist involved in the Manhattan project. He came up with this delayed choice theory about quantum mechanics...or something. My understanding is that light photons emitted from stars like billions of lightyears away wouldn't have been emitted in the first place unless it had a place to go. So that would mean that the photon knew you were going to be there to see it even if you weren't going to born for a billion years. I don't understand it. People say that it is evidence that we are living in a simulation somehow. I don't understand that either. I found this video on tiktok that explains it further, but I won't lie...I still don't really understand how this is possible.
I could hear literal geniuses tell me this theory like I was a 5 year-old for 10 hours and I wouldn't understand it. It literally hurts my head and my feelings because nothing could make me feel dumber.
I thought about drafting this in the "things I don't understand" draft, but I am not even smart enough to describe the theory in a way that made sense. I defer to the videos above which I also don't understand, but they explain it better than me.
Still not as confusing as Mr Portnoy's atomic clock thermometer not working, but a few people tweeted asking for more on the delayed choice theory since I briefly mentioned it on the show so here ya go.
