Nick Saban's New $17.5 Million Home Purchase Proves He's Accepted His Fate As No. 2 To Georgia

AL.com — Alabama coach Nick Saban bought a $17.5 million beachfront home on Jupiter Island in Florida this past spring, according to the Palm Beach Post.

The property is listed as a 6,200-square foot house, which was initially priced at $21.5 million. The house, which was built in 1992, was renovated in 2016 and includes six bedrooms, marble floors, a floating staircase, and floor-to-ceiling glass walls, per the report. It comes with a 40,000-pound boat lift.

Damn. I always imagined the day Nick Saban no longer had control of college football would be the day someone pried it from his cold, dead hands. And while Kirby Smart and Georgia have done that to a large extent, it seems like Saban is content to let it happen and retire to yet another vacation home.

You know what Smart was doing this spring while Saban was examining the marble floors at his new Florida home? Screaming at third-string defensive backs to fix their backpedals. That's the difference in gunning for a third consecutive national championship and going through the motions until you can go sit on the beach with a cold drink.

And there's nothing wrong with that. Saban is 71 years old and he's arguably the greatest coach in college football history. He was on top for a long time. I just never thought we'd see the day where he would roll over and accept being No. 2, let alone to one of his former assistants at an SEC rival.

Maybe he was never really built that different, after all. Somebody else who was able to get a 5-star at every position came along and all of a sudden Nicky was ready to hit the beach. I don't blame him, it's just not the end I would have imagined. I'm sure the floating staircase is beautiful.
