New Report Says Unwashed Pillowcases Contain More Bacteria Than A Toilet Seat
Source: An unwashed pillowcase could harbor 3 million bacteria after just one week, which is about 17,000 times more than the average toilet seat, according to a report Amerisleep shared this month.
The analysis included cleanliness data for mattresses, linens and pillowcases, as well as a breakdown of the potential pathogens lurking between the sheets.
Experts warn that pillowcases, specifically, should be changed routinely — and more than just once a week (or month).
The revelations come after years of research on soiled sheets.
In fact, past studies have shown that disease-causing bacteria live on unwashed bedsheets.
Despite the good doc’s warnings to routinely change pillowcases every few days and sheets every week, some unbothered sleepers wait a month or more to launder their bed linens.
Listen, I clean my bedding once a week every single week, but let's call a spade a spade: the bacteria from my asshole is probably different than the one coming from my face or whatever. I swear every time I see one of these reports it's comparing to a toilet seat which I'm starting to think the media wants you to think is clean as can be. Who are these articles here to serve? Are there humans out there that needed to see this report in order to finally wash their sheets? The only people I can think of are freshman dudes in their dorms who sleep on the same sheets for an entire school year and they wonder why their face looks like a large pepperoni from Little Caesars.
I know this shit is usually backed by some science I won't understand, but it really is a numbies machine to just say some obvious shit and say you did some research on it to get some clicks. Or this is one big ruse by Big Pillow to push declining sales. Reminds me of when Portnoy did hundreds of pillow reviews when he realized there's a zillion brands and a zillion more different materials and types.
See you here next week for the article that talks about how your toothbrush that you've been using for 7 straight years actually has more bacteria than the Spirit Airlines toilet seat that one influencer licked for clout.
