You Haven't Lived Until You've Watched An SEC Baseball Game In Omaha
My favorite thing about Omaha is that I'm surrounded by people who love this game the way I do. I don't enjoy it when people treat baseball like golf. Hell, even Golf fans have started to get rowdy lately. Baseball is a sport of passion. It's a sport of energy. Omaha provides that in spades. I understand that you'll get a different vibe from a postseason game in the summer than a random MLB game you'll see in July, but seeing people amped about baseball warms even my icy heart. Baseball is so cool. Being passionate about baseball is even cooler.
The College World Series has been a banger so far. Literally, every game has been electric. We've had comebacks, home runs, and great pitching performances. The boys have put on a show in Nebraska. But if we're just talking about a straight-up atmosphere, nothing beats last night's Tennessee/LSU game. That was the be expected. These are two iconic fanbases that travel exceptionally well. It was a night game which meant it wasn't too scorching hot. The place was packed, and the energy never relented. These fans don't like each other, which is awesome to watch when you're an outsider. It's like putting two bees into a jar and watching them fight.
The game itself lived up to the hype, in large part because Paul Skenes has the most incredible stuff I've ever seen. I don't even know if I'm exaggerating when I say that. I've never watched a game with so many swings and misses. The fact that Tennesse was able to get two runs across the board against Skenes when he was wearing down in the 8th inning was an accomplishment. It shows why I could never be a scout because I see nothing from Paul Skenes that makes me think he couldn't pitch in the major leagues today.
Quick sidebar, but holy shit Frank Fleming is famous. I mean, I'm on Twitter. The guy does numbers, but he's more famous in Omaha than Jesus. I never thought I'd be in a room with Peyton Manning before a Tennessee baseball game and have him be seemingly the second most famous person in the room. Also, Peyton could still go 22-30 with 375 yards and three touchdowns.
I'm not that complicated of a person. Just let me watch baseball. If you want my best version, just ask me about baseball. These moments here never get old. I don't know if it's the location, the weather, or some other magic formula I'm unaware of, but baseball in Omaha feels like it's on a different planet. I could do this shit until I'm 100 years old.
