The NHL Draft Lottery Was Rigged Right In Front Of Our Very Eyes And Nobody Is Doing Anything About It
Here's the issue with humanity--we are among some of the most easily manipulated and programmed species on the planet. You do something enough times to us and we just start to accept it as fact. The NHL has been rigging the draft lottery for years now. How else do you explain the Pittsburgh Penguins getting Sidney Crosby right before they were on the verge of having to relocate to Kansas City? How else do you explain the fact that the Chicago Blackhawks drafted Patrick Kane in 2007 when these were the odds?
How else can you explain that Kevin Weekes announced Columbus had dropped out of the top 2 last night before the card was even flipped?
And sure. Maybe that one is easily explainable. That wasn't the actual draft lottery on display at the ESPN studio, but just announcing the results. The actual lottery with the ping-pong balls was happening at a different location at a different time.
But to hell with that. Don't let the facts get in the way of a good conspiracy. It's just disgusting that the last two times the Blackhawks have had a chance to jump up in the lottery and get the rights to draft a generational superstar, it happened. It's bullshit, it's not fair, and I don't care if I sound like a whiny little bitch right now. Right after the Kane and Toews era comes to an end they just get to magically start a whole new dynasty with Bedard? It's maddening. And all the Flyers have been able to do in that time is draft James van Riemsdyk and Nolan Patrick. What the actual shit?
Was it rigged? Probably not. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't change the process. I think from now on, the draft lottery should be replaced by a royal rumble. The team that finishes in dead last place gets to bring 4 guys to the fight, the team that finishes 31st brings 3 guys to the fight, 30th brings 2, and everybody else brings 1 guy to the fight. Last man standing gets the 1st overall pick. I'd love to see Bettman try to rig that shit.
P.S. -- The Flyers were always going to be dog shit this year. There was never a chance for them to do anything besides finish just outside of the top 5 picks in the draft. And instead of coming to grips with their reality and going all in on the tank to at least have a chance at a prospect like Leo Carlsson or Michkov, those fuckers won just enough games to end up with the 7th overall pick. Makes me sick to my stomach. I hate this organization. Get me Zach Benson or Dalibor Dvorsky with that 7th overall pick or move the team to Quebec City for all I care.
