Draft Day Is Kevin Costner's Worst Sports Movie
Before I get into Draft Day, I needed to include this tweet where Brandon Walker said he didn't think he had much of a Southern accent because it's so ridiculous. The man is a real life Foghorn Leghorn. Also, I wasn't saying that Brandon should lose his accent because he's lived in NYC. I was saying he still has his accent and he was making an unfair expectation on Chadwick Boseman's character. It's the rare defense I make on behalf of Draft Day.
As far as Draft Day goes, it's at the bottom of the list for the king of sports movies: Kevin Costner. In fairness, he's made more good sports films than anyone else but this was the rare misstep. The trades in the movie are insane and the plot points are either lazy or stupid. How else do you explain Frank Langella leaving the draft in NYC and making it back to Cleveland in three picks? When you've made Field Of Dreams, Bull Durham, Tin Cup and For Love Of The Game; that's admittedly a tough bar.
In this episode of DOUBLE PLAY, we do talk Draft Day as well as the Billy Bob Thornton movie Friday Night Lights. You can watch the whole episode below or click HERE to listen:
