WATCH THIS SPINNING BACKFIST/REVERSE TRIANGLE FINSH FROM DAVEY GRANT!

DAVEY GRANT WITH THE SPINNING BACKFIST/REVERSE TRIANGLE COMBINATION!!! WHAT A PSYCHO!!!

Davey Grant just choked Raphael Assuncao out (and retired him) in the third round of their UFC Las Vegas bout with one of the best finishing sequences of the year so far, and Assuncao wasn't the only one who went to sleep mid-fight!

Just kidding, DC.

Seriously, though - somebody get that man a coffee/energy drink. He looks like he needs it and just had fries delivered to him on commentary. I don't think that's gonna help with his energy!

Right before the finish, referee Keith Peterson took a point away from Davey Grant for a blatant fence grab (no nonsense), and the second the fight was reset (on the feet, which was a point of controversy - possible nonsense), Grant's sense of urgency was revved up to the max. He didn't want to leave anything to the judges, smelled blood in the water, and pounced.

From the picture-perfect spinning backfist to the extremely cool inverted triangle that finished the fight, this was probably the closest thing to a video game finish as we'll see tonight - maybe this month! Hard to imagine Grant not getting a bonus at the end of the night.

As I mentioned, Assuncao announced his retirement after this fight, and as tough as that was to hear - it was a lot scarier to see him just obviously unconscious in that choke while Peterson checked his hand three times like he'd Hulk up on the third!

Giphy Images.

What was up with that? I was fine without a positional reset in the third if Keith was gonna take a point, because that's impactful enough, but I was SCREAMING at my television at the end of the fight there. No disrespect to Keith, but he was obviously out on the first hand check! I don't know what took so long there.

Anyway, shoutout to Assuncao for a great career. He provided a hell of a lot of wars for our entertainment over the years, and is one of the few to survive from the WEC days all the way to the modern era of the UFC. Good luck in retirement, king.
