Spencer Strider Said In August The Mets' Offense Wouldn't Work In October And Then They Got One Hit In Their Winner-Take-All Wild Card Game
Remember this quote? Spencer Strider gave up four earned runs on six hits in his start against the Mets on August 7 in what was New York's fourth win over the Braves in a five-game series — which they celebrated like the World Series — and was rather unhappy with some of the luck the Mets had in the game.
And make no mistake, there was an extreme amount of luck on New York's side in that game. The Mets were getting hits with expected batting averages below .100 and on balls hit 60 MPH. It was insane, but that's baseball.
Strider was mocked mercilessly for his comments by Mets fans, which is fine. They had won their World Series and they were going to let the bullets fly.
I am certain, then, that the Mets' offense is doing very well in this postseason. It's the MOST sustainable baseball, after all!
Well that simply can't be correct. One hit in a winner-take-all game?! I was told this was the most sustainable offense in baseball! That Spencer was an idiot who didn't know what he was talking about.
Alas, I suppose Spencer — much like Frank — was right. And oh by the way, he got $75 million today before he dominates offenses still alive in the postseason.
