Willow - The Offspring Of Will Smith And Jada Pinkett - Is Actually Pretty Fucking Good
Willow, aka Willow Smith, aka daughter of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett, aka sister of space shot Jaden, aka “Whip My Hair” girl played Saturday Night Live this weekend. And she crushed it.
And she’s been crushing it.
Everybody remembers her from her pop hit “Whip My Hair” which was on the radio constantly, and the video which got tons of airplay on tv and socials.
That was shockingly 12 years ago.
Since then, she’s dropped her surname from her performing name, opting to simply go by “Willow” instead. And she changed her sound and style, forming an alt/emo rock band in the process.
And she shaved her head.
The first song of hers I heard, “Transparent Soul”, I remember thinking to myself “wow this girls voice is really fucking good.”
(Don’t judge her based on the fact Travis Barker is featured on his zillionth song here because it's a jam)
When I looked her up I was SHOCKED it was the same girl. She followed that hit up with a couple more really good singles -
This song with The Anxiety and Tyler Cole that was super popular this summer, “Meet Me At Our Spot”
And “Maybe It’s My Fault”
So fast forward to this weekend, she’s the musical guest on SNL. As bad as the show has become, this is still a big honor from a musical standpoint.
And she did a really good job -
The craziest part of it all is that she didn’t do anything crazy. She went up there with her band, played her two newest singles, gave it her all, and thanked the crowd. No outbursts. No weird societal or political statements. No pontificating. No physical assaults. Just normal behavior which is anything but normal for a member of her family.
Shocking.
I don’t really care if you like her music or not. But you should at least give it a listen. If you don’t you’re probably still listening to the same stuff you have been since the 60s and never gave anything else a chance. But there’s a lot of people out there who should know about this girl because her voice is amazing and she’s pretty fucking talented.
